For my brother’s 30th birthday party we celebrated at the restaurant Dirty Habit located in the heart of Washington D.C. It’s the perfect restaurant to host an event for such a milestone moment because of its luxe, and high-design space located in the courtyard of Hotel Monaco. Dirty Habit is a restaurant and lounge serving New American cuisine, and creative cocktails. The space consists of a dark, mysterious and alluring dining room, a large glass house serving inventive craft cocktails, and a spacious patio “encompassing an entire city block” with modern fire pits to gather around and converse. The place is so glamorous, and elegant that you feel like you’re part of a James Bond movie, however don’t be intimidated the restaurant attracts all kinds of people and has international appeal.
I would definitely recommend cocktail attire for this place, as I always like to dress the part. It’s a chance for you to dress up, wear your favorite heels and for men to sport a blazer (black tie optional). My brother, Travis’, foot was hurting that day, and he said he couldn’t wear nice shoes. I said, “a man’s shoes really says a lot about who he is, birthday boy”, and we left the house him wearing perforated wingtip Oxfords (no one said looking GREAT was comfortable). I wore a hot red lace, off the shoulder romper from Yumi Kim with my favorite Marc Fisher wedges.
The dining experience exceeded my expectations. The staff at Dirty Habit really went above and beyond to make our night special. We sat down and glanced at our menus only to find a personalized note at the top of each that said, “Happy 30th Birthday, Travis from The Dirty Habit”. We were so impressed and excited about it! We ordered several shareable plates and cocktails. We loved the portion sizes, because you got to taste a lot of different dishes without getting too full. The plates kept coming out one after another, perfectly timed. You always had a new cocktail and tapa in front of you, because of this there was never a dull moment in conversation and everyone was so pleased with the food and drink that it reflected in our happy attitudes. We ordered everything from poke tuna, grilled octopus, truffle fries, to lychee/rose cocktails, and German chocolate cake pops for dessert. The staff even came out singing happy birthday and delivered a beautifully designed dessert with a candle to blow-out. It’s not a birthday without a song and wish.
After our delightful dinner we retired to the open air courtyard patio to enjoy a reserved lounge area just for our party. There were chilled champagne bottles awaiting our arrival and our host helped serve our last but not least cheers to my brother’s 30th birthday. The waiter even made a special drink for my brother and brought him his favorite aged whisky on the rocks. We were treated like royalty, which made it a night to remember. I highly recommend taking your loved ones to this special and unique restaurant, you won’t regret it.
