I tried Botox for the first time in my 20’s! There are a lot of opinions about Botox, but I’m the kind of person who is daring enough to try everything at least once. I was 26 years old when I went to see plastic surgeon, Dr. Assadi in the Upper East Side of New York City. I wasn’t nervous and simply trusted Dr. Assadi and his advice from the consultation. He made me feel comfortable and answered all my questions.
We decided to do Botox on my forehead, in between my eyebrows “elevens”, and my crows feet. I lay there relaxed on the chair. He cleaned my skin and injected needles into my skin in those areas. It wasn’t painful, and the whole process was pretty quick.
Afterward I saw tiny red dots from where the needles had inserted. In the next few days I had bruised a little bit on my forehead but it wasn’t that noticeable. It was definitely a weird sensation, basically what Botox does is freeze your muscles so they can’t contract or move. My face wasn’t “frozen”, and I could still show normal facial expressions. The idea was to do preventive Botox.
In general Botox is used to help prevent wrinkles from forming. If you move your face a lot then naturally you develop deep lines. “Any line that is present at rest, whether it is an etched in frown line, or a deep wrinkle, is not going to disappear with Botox. Botox is not an iron,” says medical, cosmetic, and surgical dermatologist Dr. Estee Williams, MD. For more fun facts about Botox check out “I Don’t Regret Botox. But I Wish I Knew These 7 Facts First” post from Healthline.
It took a week or so for the full effects to kick in. I slowly noticed I wasn’t able to really raise my eyebrows haha. In my experience I also developed a few headaches here and there but they were not severe.
In general they say Botox lasts 3-4 months, but mine lasted about a year! It may because I was in my 20’s and it was my first time. I loved my Botox! I noticed my skin was super smooth looking, and I received a lot of compliments about my skin during the time I had Botox.
Botox is not for everyone, but I think for preventative purposes it’s a good technique. I recently discovered Peachy, and new “Wrinkle Studio” opening in New York City soon that is all about preventative skincare. Peachy helps stop lines before they form! I’m thinking I may want to dabble with Botox again in the near future.
