If you’re quarantined, then now is the perfect time to start a skincare routine or at least learn about one. For starters how about my Dermalogica 5 step skincare regimen? More time at home, means more time to self care. Take time to breath, slow down, and care for yourself.
Skincare has become one of my latest obsessions, well actually not latest. For the past 4 years I’ve become quite passionate and dedicated about taking care of my skin. That means, every night and morning I practice a full skincare regimen.
Personally, I would rather invest and spend money on skincare products than make-up. I pick-up random make-up products from the local drugstore but I don’t do that with my skincare. I do research and find the right treatments for my skin.
Your skin is your largest organ, so why wouldn’t you care about taking care of it! I’m also on this kick of not using make-up, and basically going make-up free to work, and day to day because I want to learn to get used to my natural beauty and not create this expectation and standard for myself. Don’t get me wrong I love playing dress-up, just on my terms.
Also, feeling forced to put make-up on every morning just to be seen is not a good feeling. I’m wasting precious minutes getting ready in the morning when I could be sleeping, or beating traffic! Anyway, back to skincare!
I discovered Dermalogica early on when I moved to New York City, maybe because they have a flagship location there. I truly love their products because of their formulas and ingredients. I also have a red light therapy at home which I use once a week to help my skin heal. It’s not about the fancy packaging, it’s truly about what’s inside the products and I really appreciate that. For some fun facts about Dermalogica see their sustainability facts I pulled from their website below.

Regimen
Now let’s get to the fun stuff, my regimen. Everyone has their own routine. Some people say they believe in 10 steps, well let’s start with a simple 5!
Precleanse– The first of a two step cleanse process. Helps remove the tough layers of dirt, make-up, oils, sunscreen, and other pollutants that naturally build up throughout the day.
Special Cleansing Gel– The second “true” cleanse. A gentle lather that gentle removes toxins and any leftover debris. After you can be sure you have cleaned your skin and it’s prepped for the next step in the process.
Daily Microfoliant– Next up, exfoliation! This product helps even skin tone, but also calms the skin with it’s Colloidal Oatmeal component. Not too rough or hard on the skin.
Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50– On to step 4, moisturizer! I highly recommend using a moisturizer with SPF. These day’s I don’t leave the house without a cream that has SPF. It’s a great consistency! I’d say it’s medium thick and applies easily on the skin. It also has a good smell! I like to use this in the mornings and save heavy restorative creams for the night.
Stress Positive Eye Lift– You’ve made it to the last step! Eye cream! I have a very sensitive eye area, specifically because of my exposure to the sun. Growing up I played a lot of outdoor sports like soccer, and was on the swim team. When I was in my teens I was a lifeguard and private swim instructor and in those day’s no one enforced sunglasses or sunblock so now I have developed premature wrinkles around my eyes. To help restore and hydrate the delicate skin around my eyes I always use a cream. It’s cooling massage applicator also helps reduce puffiness and the formula helps reduce dark circles. It’s really easy to use and I love the metal tip!
Everyone has their own skincare needs, but I hope you enjoyed reading about some of my favorites! I take an extra 5-10 minutes in the bathroom every day and night to make sure I go through my skincare regimen but it’s worth it in the end. The process is a little therapeutic to me at this point. It’s time with myself, taking care of myself so I feel good about it. Try it out!
As always, thanks for reading my Dermalogica 5 step skincare regimen. I talked a little about sustainability above, but for more fun reads check out my blog post, What Does Sustainable Fashion Mean?
