I had such an amazing time this year during New York Fashion Week. My day’s were filled with runway shows, hair and makeup appointments, photo-shoots, showroom pulling and visits, brand events, company social parties, blogger brunches & dinners, gifted product, product launch parties, interviews, designer presentations, and last but not least CHAMPAGNE. I was totally in my element, and loved every second of running around to socialize, be pampered and above all see fashion. The fashion designers create such a positive energy with there gorgeous collections and designs for the world. The clothes are what makes this week so magical. Everyone gets dressed to the nines, and shows their best peacock for the world on the street and on the runway. That is why this is one of my favorite weeks of the year, other than September New York Fashion Week! Read on to see my recap part 1 of all the fabulous designers I covered during the week.
Hakan Akkaya
Hakan Akkaya was one of my favorite runway shows. I saw a lot of black, frill details, velvets, patent leathers, zips, and metallics expressed in this Ready to wear collection. I appreciated the male and female models showcasing masculine and feminine silhouettes, because it signifies equality, unity, and progressiveness. Overall I would summarize Akkaya’s collection as “Sporty Couture”. Very high end fashion that resembles elegant street wear.
Katie Gallagher
Katie Gallagher’s collection was non-traditional in the sense that the models were very exposed. She used very dainty fabrics, and shapes that barely covered the models. I enjoyed the modern, and progressive outlook. She was inspired by the MA-1 bomber jackets the pilots wore in the 1940’s during WWII. I personally connect with this as I just recently visited the Virginia Air & Space Museum in Dallas, where several bomber jackets were restored from that time period and exhibited. She used warm colors like orange to represent her fall collection. Her designs featured sharp, geometrical shapes. She used tulle, sheer tights, and the color black primarily. Very fabulous collection by this American fashion designer.
Jenny Packham
I loved this runway show. Jenny Packham had such a romantic display. She had a floral backdrop where all the models came out from. Her designs ranged from fun & kitschy, to elegant & classy. I saw a lot of fine delicate materials with lace and embellishments, colored leather, graphic tops, patched leather jackets, pearls, embroidery, and a lot of shimmer. Overall a very feminine, classic, refreshing collection.
