My trip to Nicaragua was incredible! We rented an Airbnb and stayed in San Juan Del Sur. I went with a group of four, and we had quite an eventful time there. The first night we arrived we went out to the town center and enjoyed dinner at one of the local restaurants. We ordered a seafood platter, and fancy cocktails. We dined like kings and queens, listened to live music, and danced the night away on the beach under the lights. The next day we kicked it at the resorts pool. There was no one else in sight, because it was off season. We enjoyed having the pool to ourselves. Later in the evening we went to the Masaya Volcano National park for a nocturnal tour of the active volcano where we saw real life lava and bats flying throughout the crater. It was definitely a sight to see!
The following day we went to tour the historic colonial city of Granada, but only after we did a 60 min zip line tour in the forest. There was no wait, and we saw monkeys in the trees! We also had a coffee tour and learned how coffee plants are grown and cultivated. Once we arrived to Granada we dined at a homemade pizza restaurant, viewed the entire city from the bell tower of a historic church, and visited several establishments including a cigar shop where we learned about the process of making cigars. Later we took a boat tour in Lake Nicaragua around the Isletas while enjoying a cold corona at sunset. We headed back to town to taste the infamous hot cacao and then went back to San Juan del Sur.
The next morning we went to a beach called Playa Hermosa where we rented surf boards and road giants (more like white waves)! It was a beautiful beach where the waves were perfect for beginners. For lunch I had fish tacos and a pina colada. The following day we took a boat tour on the Pacific side to a beautiful, remote beach called Costa Blanca, where we paddle boarded and enjoyed a homemade picnic. We road back during sunset drinking wine, watching the sunset- basically in heaven. Next morning we did morning Yoga with a friend instructor we met along the way, rented ATV’s and explored a big surf beach.
Overall we had such an amazing experience, the food was delicious, everything was very affordable, and the people were very friendly. I highly recommend traveling there!
