Taking care of your skin at night should be second nature, just like brushing your teeth. At this point I have trained myself to hardly ever skip my nighttime skincare bathroom routine. I actually enjoy it, because it’s somewhat therapeutic for me. I love the feeling of a good moist face before bed. Let’s just say you don’t want to share a bathroom with me, because I take my sweet damn time.
It critical to make sure you are following the right steps and practices for your skin because, it’s when you sleep that your products are able to truly work to hydrate and rejuvenate your skin. I use my most potent skincare products at night, so I see the most benefits when I wake up.
I’ll walk you through the steps I take at night that are critical to healthy skin.
1. Make-up Remover- I like to use Neutrogena’s make-up remover wipes but any make-up remover can work to lift the heavy make up off your face like thick eyeshadow, lipstick or eyeliner. It’s never fun to cleanse with red lipstick on because then you get it all over your face.
2. Cleanser- I use a light cleaners to remove the excess make-up and dirt from my face. I have to make sure I get it all off.
3. Acne Wash- Helps me control my acne so it doesn’t appear and surprise me on a Saturday morning. Even though I don’t have big acne issues, it helps ensure they don’t appear every now and then. Also, helps to regulate and clear blackheads.
4. Toner- Removed extra dead skin cells, and even out your skin tone, also clears any remaining dirt/oil.
5. Eye Cream- Pat gently around eye area. Remember that skin around the eyes is very delicate and you have to pat instead of rub on products. I use an eye cream that helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and hydrates.
6. Overnight moisturizer- I use a heavy night moisturizer as my main product to work to rejuviate my skin. My favorite is Tula Overnight Skin Rescue Treatment.
Sometimes I use an oil for extra moisture before my night cream if I’m feeling extra dry. There’s so much exposure to pollution since I live in NYC so my skin goes through a lot of environmental stress, not to mention the dry offices. It’s really important to hydrate your skin at night. In addition to using an oil for extra moisture before my night cream, I’ve also found that incorporating the best red light therapy into my skincare routine has been a game-changer. Living in NYC with its high pollution levels and spending long hours in dry office environments can take a toll on your skin. Red light therapy has proven to be effective in combating the effects of environmental stress and maintaining skin hydration. It’s an excellent way to enhance your nighttime skincare regimen and keep your skin looking its best.
It’s never to early to start caring about your skin. The earlier you start the better! I have included my nighttime routine products below. I use them every night and really love them!
