Here’s a little bit about my new single “i do” and my inspiration behind it.
My Inspiration
It was over the summer at a backyard cookout that I first heard one of my best friends’ engagement stories. I’m not sure what it was that day and that moment that it really struck me. The power of love, and the promise to love someone till the end of time. I couldn’t stop thinking about the love story and a few months later I wrote the song ‘i do’ inspired and based on their personal engagement story. Even though my song ‘i do’ is inspired by one couples engagement story it can be applied to everyone’s, because love is universal.
In a traditional sense, I’d love my song to be a wedding song used for someone’s first dance or any other aspect in a wedding. In a non-traditional sense I’d love for my song to be a means to communicate and express to someone you love how you feel about them whether or not a “wedding” is your thing.
I think it’s kind of funny to call my own song a wedding song, but I truly wanted people to have a perfect song for their wedding day. I don’t really know of that many “wedding songs” or songs that were written and meant for a wedding. So here ya go! From the most organic place comes a wedding song, and I’m not even getting married!
Collaboration
I really wanted to incorporate real strings on my track and so I collaborated with a well-known artist Laura Escude who composed and performed an original violin arrangement on the song. Something about violins is so classic, romantic and moving. I just had to have them. This was my first time collaborating with another artist on my track so it was really cool and fun for me!
My song was produced and mixed by Harper James he has produced all of my songs since I debuted as an artist. He has really helped shape my sound, and understands my vision as an artist. We’ve become pretty close as colleagues and friends and working with him is always a great experience.
A Wedding Song
What’s really interesting to me about writing a “wedding song” is that I started to question “weddings” and our society norms about those traditions. I started to ask myself, would I want a wedding and why? How do other cultures do it, what are other ways that people do it? It’s something to really think about. Just because we’re used to seeing it in the movies doesn’t mean it’s right for us.
I decided to un-capitalize the title of my song ‘i do’ because it makes it less conventional. I’m going against the structure and rules of grammar/writing and it symbolizes how it’s ok to deviate from the norm. ‘i do’ represents falling in love your own way, and expressing that love in a way that’s best for you or as a couple.
All in all if you do have a wedding in the traditional sense I’d love for my song to be used in your wedding! I hope people can resonate with it, I hope it’s emotional and moving and makes people feel something. Sometimes when I listen closely and attentively I get emotional myself! Oh love! There’s nothing else like it!
