When I say sustainable fashion, what I really mean is clothing brands that are working towards sustainability. It is pretty hard if not impossible to be 100% sustainable, but the goal is to be conscious and my mission is to applaud the brands that are making efforts to minimize their social and environmental impact. So here are 10 sustainable fashion brands I love, therefore you’ll love!
Really quick, if you don’t know what “sustainable fashion” means it’s OK! You can check out my post, “What Does Sustainable Fashion Mean?”. Also, Good Housekeeping gives a brief rundown, “While “fast fashion” describes clothing that is cheaply made and intended for short-term use, “sustainable” (or “ethical”) fashion is the opposite and is sometimes even referred to as “slow fashion.” It takes into account the full life-cycle of the product — from the design, sourcing, and production processes.” Check out the full article here!
The United Nations 17 SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals) are basically the bible. They call them, “the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to transform our world”. So with that, let’s dive in!
10 Sustainable Fashion Brands
- Marine layer– “Absurdly soft clothes designed in San Francisco and enjoyed by all.” They use recycled materials and also sustainable fabrics and the output is super comfy shirts and clothing.
- Reformation– They offer sustainable women’s clothing and accessories. Their slogan is, “Being naked is the #1 most sustainable option. Reformation is #2.” Reformation has super cute trendy clothing.
- Girlfriend Collective– “Ethically made active wear. 100% recycled, 100% recyclable.” I love how inclusive they are especially with their models online. It’s really refreshing and makes me love them more. I love how simple their active-wear styles are, but they offer super fun colors to spice it up. I’m a big fan of solid active-wear but that’s just me!
- Re/Done– “RE/DONE jeans are the vintage denim of your dreams, worn perfectly, and re-made in your favorite modern fits.” Re/Done has super cool styles and really soft vintage t-shirts. Perfect for the rocker/chic in all of us.
- Cozy Earth– Cozy Earth has amazing sheets and lounge-wear. They use lightweight bamboo fabrics that breathe twice as well as cotton, reducing humidity and heat. Use code: MARILYN50 for 50% off your order! I just ordered a robe and I’m so excited to use especially for my blow-outs or when I’m putting make-up on. They have fabrics that’ll make you feel like you’re in a spa. Treat yourself to super soft, buttery fabrics especially when you’re chillin’. I always get excited to throw on my PJ’s or lounge-wear when I’m craving a soft touch.
- Worn Wear by Patagonia- “Better than new”. Pre-loved Patagonia clothing for sale or you might call it resale. You can shop used, or re-crafted which is “new” clothes made from other clothes. I love that Patagonia has this option. They are really closing the loop on their product life-cycle giving old garments a second life and possibly a second home. Also, it allows people who may not be able to afford a full-price Patagonia item to own a piece. It also speaks to their long lasting quality or what I like to call “endurance”.
- Cotopaxi– “Innovative Outdoor Gear with Positive Social Impact. Easy Exchanges & Returns. Responsibly Sourced. Types: T-Shirts, Jackets, Fitness Apparel, Backpacks, Camp Gear.” I recently stumbled upon Cotopaxi on Pinterest, like I do most things and I was surprised by how cute their retro, colorful hiking styles are. Once I checked out their website I came to realize they are all about sustainability which made me so happy! I love the llama logo, and what they stand for. The story is pretty cute and I love how they give back to under-served communities.
- Sunday Soho– Eco-friendly sustainable clothing brand that makes limited amounts and sometimes just one piece of a style! I was walking through Soho one random day and discovered Sunday Soho. They have such cute clothes it reminds me of Revolve, but totally sustainable and one of a kind. I love that when I buy something from them it’ll be unique.
- DL1961– “Sustainable denim brand, focusing on ethical manufacturing, and higher standards.” DL1961 does a great job with transparency as to their manufacturing process which allows me to trust them as a brand. Although in my experience the fit can be too big or too small I do love their styles. Denim fits can be tricky overall so it’s not just a them thing. They are a relatively new brand so I think they’ll only get better.
- H&M Conscious Collection– H&M is known to be “fast fashion”, but they have a Conscious Collection which offers sustainable fashion pieces in classic, shapes similar to their more popular fashion line. If you love H&M please start shopping from their Sustainable Collection! Their stuff is super soft and also stylish!
Sustainable brands don’t have to be boring. There exists this bad reputation that sustainable brands are too expensive or plain, but I’m hoping my round-up is informing you that fun, exciting, trendy clothing brands do exist at a price point you can afford.
I’m hoping there’s at least one brand in my round-up that resonates with you. The more we can shop sustainable fashion brands the more demand there will be, therefore more reasons for brands and companies to start caring about it. As you know the world is all about capitalism, at least for the big dogs. As consumers we have purchasing power, so try to use it wisely. Brands are watching and listening more than ever now because of technology.
