Getaway Cabins
I discovered Getaway on Instagram like I do most things these days. One day I was searching for a weekend getaway from the big city, and craziness of my life. New York City is great and all, but sometimes the pollution and crowds of people get to me. Immediately I fell in love with the minimalist design and aesthetic of the houses. Especially the huge window from floor to ceiling that some of the cabins have. I could just picture myself there already, so I had to look into Getaway Cabins more.
Glamping Experience
I love the outdoors but didn’t really want to “rough it” and go full on camping. Getaway cabins offers more of a “glamping” experience. What I mean by this is that Getaway provides beds with linens, full kitchen with a fridge, stove, sink, and a bathroom with a toilet, shower (with hot water), and essentials like soap, towels, etc. So, we didn’t need to pack much!
We brought a cooler full of goodies, because we wanted to cook and bring our favorite snacks like pancakes, trail mix, risotto even scallops for dinner! We cooked in the fire pit that was dedicated to our camp site. Getaway provides food too! They supply pantry items for a reasonable price. In addition, they even provide fire wood!
Getaway cabins has several different locations, but I tried the camp sites in Maryland in the Shenandoah River Valley less than two hours away from D.C.. It was the perfect distance away!
Day 1
I went with my boyfriend and his super cute pup, Homie! We had such a great time! Once we got there we first set up our hammock, and slack line (not for me, I’m not that cool or balanced). Then, we played Frisbee and hung out a bit before. After that, we got the fire started and started to prep for dinner. We of course brought some beer and bought local wine from the nearby grocery store. At night we star gazed and made s’mores (provided by Getaway) and went to sleep in the super comfy bed that I decorated with lights to create more of a magical ambiance.
Day 2
There are other cabins around, but they are at the perfect distance away so that you don’t feel overcrowded and it still feel like you have your own space. The next day we went on a nice long waterfall hike! The trail was dog friendly, so we brought Homie! Getaway has a pamphlet and manual that suggests nearby activities, so it was easy planning our days without too much research ahead of time.
We drove back to our cabin and took hot showers and chilled. The next morning it rained so we slept in and made pancakes. We packed up and were on our way shortly after. I would have loved to stay another night, so we’ll have to go back soon.
Perfect Gift
In conclusion, Getaway was the perfect getaway! Please let me know if you end up going! I’m telling you it’s such a nice experience and a perfect gift for a loved one! My trip was more of a couple’s getaway, but it’s fun for families too! They have bunk beds and cabins that fit more than two!
