After my boyfriend and I ran the New York City Marathon we took a weekend escape to Scribner’s Catskills Lodge in upstate New York. It was a much needed getaway, and less than 3 hrs away by car. After training for so long outside breathing in the city pollution I was in dire need of some fresh air.
Going to Scribner’s Lodge was the perfect reward after completing such a physical challenge. Luckily we both finished the race without injury the only thing we wanted to do was rest; our bodies needed it.
One of the cool things about Scribner’s Catskills Lodge that differentiates it from other places is that it’s dog friendly! They provided a “puppy starter kit” complete with a toy, and water and food bowl. It was a super cute touch. They even provided a doggie bed, because we forgot to bring one.
I really liked our stay at Scribner’s Catskills Lodge for several reasons, but one of the reasons I specifically sought it out was because it’s interior design and overall aesthetic is beautiful! We stayed in a King Suite that had a deck looking out to the mountains in the distance. They provided a chilled hard cider for us right when we walked in and we of course popped it open ASAP to celebrate. There were good vibes right from the start.
They had a super cool scandavian designed sauna outside that you could reserve. So we called the front desk and they happily set it up for us. It was so relaxing! The wooded cylindrical sauna had a huge giant window on one side looking at the mountains. This was a huge perk and definitely Instagram worthy.
The first night we drove into town to pick up some local wine and dine at the near by pizzeria called Sal’s Pizza. It’s owned by the same people from the Lodge so we knew it would be good. It came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The only thing is next time we would’ve ordered one one pie instead of two! Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs.
The next day we we woke up early had breakfast at Scribner’s Prospect Restaurant. We split pancakes and eggs. I love a good sweet and savory combo. Then, we drove to Kaaterskill Falls to hike. It was somewhat of a leisurely hike, which was good for our aching bodies, but regardless we were advised it’s best to walk it out. We saw huge waterfalls which was so pretty.
After we went back to the lodge, and hung out in the Library and chilled. We waited for the outdoor fire fit to be set and once it was we watched the sunset while roasting s’mores. Dessert came before dinner! Later, we went to dinner at the Scribner’s Prospect Restaurant which was delightful. The next morning we tried out the Sauna one more time before getting ready to check-out.
It was such a fun getaway that I highly recommend for anyone looking to escape the city for some fresh air in the mountains. The lodge had great service and food. It was especially fun to have “Homie” there, my boyfriends puppy. Definitely check out Scribner’s Lodge for your next planned getaway!
