We can all relate to the fact that we get our hair cut and maybe colored regularly. I myself go quite often because I’m not a real blonde (shhh don’t tell anyone!). So the upkeep is real. It’s part of our annual spending, just like the sun rises and sets, we cyclically have to go in for a hair cut. Read on to learn about my hairstylist recommendations in NYC.
In New York City there are a lot of options that can sometimes be overwhelming. So of course I’m here to share my hairstylist recommendations. Say you are in the market for a salon in a specific area, or your regular hairdresser moves across the country. What if they are all booked for month and you need that re-fresh STAT?! Whatever the case may be I have a few recommendations to people and places I have been to and had great experiences.
In the end it’s really about the people isn’t it?! I didn’t used to think that was the case. I would call up a salon and they would ask me who I would like to see, and I would say “whoever is available”. For me it was more about having the salon meet my time, than finding the time my hairstylist was available.
I also think I just never fell in love with my people, and I was never that happy with my haircuts. Maybe, the quality wasn’t there? I don’t know! All I can say is that now I am very happy with my haircuts and I love the people I go to. So I want to share with you, so maybe you can fall in love with them to? Or maybe you just need a reliable person to get the job done.
As a blogger, my job calls me to try out different places. So in a way I am taking risks every time that I go someplace new, but I choose to TRUST instead of doubt. I like getting the chance to meet new people, try out different salons. In the end of the day if my hair gets messed up…it’s not permanent. That is why I am able to recommend so many different places, because I’ve had the opportunity to try them in the past 4 years of living in NYC.
I’m basically doing all the dirty work for you…So you’re welcome! JK, I’m happy to do it. Anyway check out my NYC Salons and Hairdressers below!
Hairstylist Recommendations
NOLITA
Paul Fox Salon– Visit Whitney Warfield for cut and color at the Paul Fox Salon in Nolita. I love going to visit Whitney for color. She helped me take my blonde to the next level. I told her I wanted to go even lighter and bring it closer to the root for more of a Swedish blonde look. She gets me. She’s a triple threat- cool, beautiful and talented. I also feel like I can talk to Whitney about anything! She’s the kind of girl you tell all your sh** to.
EAST VILLAGE
Rogue House Salon– Visit Jamielynn “JJ” for cut and color at the Rogue House Salon in the East Village. Jamielynn is such a COOL chick and a total boss babe. She is the founder of Rogue House, which is kind of like your local barbershop in terms of chill but so much cooler. You get served wine and get really close to the girls in this super cute “barbershop” tucked away in the side streets of EV.
SOHO
Art + Autonomy– Visit Siobhan Quinlan for cut and color at Art + Autonomy in Soho. I love Siobhan! Siobhan is the one who originally took me blonde! I was so nervous, and we talked about the best way to go about my transformation. We opted for a transitional “lived in” look for my blonde so that I wouldn’t be committed to the upkeep if I wasn’t obsessed with my blonde. After this session though I loved my color so much I kept bringing it closer and closer to the root. Siobhan is the Creative Director at Art + Autonomy and FYI they always throw super fun parties and events for their customers. She is very talented!
MIDTOWN EAST
Fekkai Salon– Visit Krystel for color and Alessandra for cut at Fekkai in Midtown East. These girls are bad a** and a power team at Fekkai. I remember that’s what everyone said when I was at the salon. One does color and one does cut and they kill it. Funny enough we were all going to Mexico at the same time so we had a lot to talk about. They are super easy going, I was able to work on my laptop during my hair appointment and it was NBD. Def recommend these ladies. Super easy to talk to too! If you’re someone who prefers working or staying productive during downtime, considering a versatile device like the Helio G99 tablet could be a game-changer. Its portability and performance make it effortless to manage tasks while you’re on the go. So, whether it’s catching up on work or simply enjoying some entertainment, having a reliable tablet like the Helio G99 can be a fantastic addition to your daily routine.
SOHO
Sam Brocato Salon– Visit Sherry Ratay for color at the Sam Brocato Salon in Soho. I was honored to visit Sherry Ratay a celebrity hairstylist. I felt totally secure in her hands and she was able to lift my color and give me a great blonde re-fresh.
HUDSON YARDS
Sally Hershberger– Visit Nikki Ferrara for color at Sally Hershberger at Hudson Yards. FYI Nikki used to be at Serge Normant at John Frieda but moved to Sally Hershberger! Nikki is the best! She hooked up a mean hand painted balayage that looked so natural. She knew just were to highlight, and would emphasize the face framing pieces to give my face a pop. Nikki helped me prep my hair to go blonde. I did balayage for a whole year before I went total 100% blonde.
I hope you enjoyed my hairstylist recommendations in NYC! If you end up going to any of these places please let them know I recommended you, and you just might get something special 🙂
I trust these ladies for cut and color and if you visit one of them I would love to hear your experience. I hope my round-up made looking for your next hairdresser that much easier.
