As a Global Impact Influencer for AZARAM Productions I have had the chance to work with luxury brands that align and work to meet the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. I love to support companies and brands that are making these efforts towards sustainable fashion. For me it’s about celebrating the progress and highlighting the work they are doing to create a positive change. Read on to learn more about what sustainable fashion means!
Sustainable fashion is a very broad term, and can encompass a lot of different areas! The UN for one has 17 goals themselves! Everything from a brands environmental footprint, to fabric waste and fair wages. That is why it is hard to claim to be 100% sustainable, especially if you are making something and using resources you most likely will be creating some sort of waste.
“Many of fashion’s biggest and most influential companies have created a pact to address the industry’s effect on the environment” for example Ralph Lauren! I like to focus on brands who are working to minimize the use of chemicals in the products they create. That is where “clean beauty” comes in.
I was introduced to Clove and Hallow, clean beauty brand, at a recent event I went to at the super cute Mexican restaurant, Casa Bocado in New York. I learned that Clove and Hallow is PETA-certified, cruelty-free and vegan! They replace thousands of questionable chemicals with natural ingredients and safe synthetics that you can trust. So you can feel good about what you are putting on your skin.
Another brand I learned about was DL1961. They use clean indigo dyes and are powered by solar energy and have their own in-house power generation plant! They are conscious about their water usage and strive for innovative, energy efficient fibers in their products. It’s the small things that can make a difference.
Each one of these brands is working towards their own sustainability goals, and that’s what is important. The goal is to keep working more on more on becoming more sustainable. It’s about being conscious of our environment and people.
As consumers we need to be more conscious of what we purchase and understand that we have purchasing power! We need to demand transparency and understand how our products are being made.
I hope you enjoyed reading about what sustainable fashion means and I hope this topic has peaked your interest! I definitely suggest looking into and researching more about this topic because it’s super important and something that I’m passionate about.
