Ello Mate! Are you from London?!
I recently went to England for the first time to visit one of my best friends Ellie, who was living there at the time! I went for my Birthday, but also over Valentine’s Day. Funny story, me and Ellie were college roommates for all four years, and we would always be each others Valentine when we weren’t dating anyone… We always managed to be in sync with our dating lives. So! It was kind of a throwback to be each others Valentine yet again!
It was also such a fun experience to meet up with a best friend abroad in an international city! The last time I saw her was back in my hometown! Seeing a familiar face in a foreign land was pretty cool.
I loved visiting England. It was interesting being in a foreign country where everyone speaks English, my first and primary language. Typically when you think of international travel you prepare yourself for a culture shock or language barrier, at least for me.
England has so much history, and it’s pretty obvious in the way the cities are built, and the architectural details. I wish I could dive deep into the history but I’d probably bore you…also, History was always my worst subject in school. However, you can still read some interesting facts here on www.thetrajet.com. I would probably butcher a fact or date. So let me just stay clear of talking about History, because it’s definitely not my forte.
I met Ellie in Cambridge, where we wondered the charming English streets stopping by random bars for a glass of wine and catching up. We spent the next day shopping and went on a “punting” tour, which is apparently the thing to do. You can bring your own wine and they provide blankets for you as you are chauffeured down the river taking in views of Cambridge’s most famous landmarks.
Later, in the early evening, we took a train to London where we went out for drinks at Nightjar for Valentine’s Day. They had the most beautiful and creative drinks ever! I got a drink that was in an owl-shaped vase and was smoking. The next drink came in the shape of a candy! So delish!
We explored the city going to all the tourist spots like the London Eye, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace aka the White House of London, The Tower of London, and of course stopped at a red telephone box to take photos.
For dinner, we went to Dinerama for some street food. It’s a super fun, cool multi-floor outdoor/indoor food market with solid music and great vibes. The next day we went to Piccadilly Circus and spent almost our entire day having afternoon tea at Sketch, which felt straight out of a movie. They served us bottomless teapots and food which we took advantage of. We listened to a live orchestra as we sipped our tea cups with our pinkies up while enjoying caviar. Fancy fancy!
Another night we went to Roka for a contemporary Japanese experience, and essentially tried everything on the menu! I have to say I tried a bite of meat…because when in London!
I didn’t have enough time to see all that there was! There were so many more food and vendor markets to explore! I didn’t even get a chance to check out all the museums! So I’ll definitely have to go back, but luckily for me it’s just a hop, skip and a jump away (not really, but thought I’d say it anyway)! I hope you enjoyed my London travel guide!
